    BOYCOTT THE SUN!!!

Many football fans, Liverpool supporters or other, regularly buy The Sun day in day out. It is afterall, a brightly coloured Red-top paper full of the usual tittle-tattle one would expect from a tabloid that ranks as one of, if not the, best selling paper by circulation in the U.K. Many fans however do not realise the heartache and distress The Sun has caused over the years to Liverpool football club, it's supporters and more importantly, the families and friends of those that died on 15th April 1989 at Hillsborough. Regardless of the colour of the shirt on your back come match day, NO self-respecting football fan should EVER buy The Sun.

There are people walking the street today who genuinely believe that Liverpool Football Club fans, "viciously attacked rescue workers as they tried to revive victims", "police officers, firemen and ambulance crew were punched, kicked and urinated upon", "a dead girl had been abused" and that Liverpool fans "were openly urinating on us and the bodies of the dead". All of these claims have since been proven to be complete rubbish. All of these claims were printed in one of the most popular newpapers in the U.K. at the behest of Kelvin MacKenzie. Why? Simply to sell more newspapers.

It is the job of every self-repecting football fan, regardless of team bias, to spread the word and Boycott The Sun Newspaper. Let anyone who will listen, know just exactly why we refuse to buy it and that Kelvin MacKenzie is gut-less scum.
How The Sun reported the Hillsborough Disaster source: Wikipedia

On the Wednesday following the disaster, Kelvin MacKenzie, then editor of The Sun, a British tabloid newspaper with national distribution owned by Rupert Murdoch, used the front page headline "THE TRUTH", with three sub-headlines: "Some fans picked pockets of victims"; "Some fans urinated on the brave cops"; "Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life".

The story accompanying these headlines claimed that "drunken Liverpool fans viciously attacked rescue workers as they tried to revive victims" and "police officers, firemen and ambulance crew were punched, kicked and urinated upon". A quote, attributed to an unnamed policeman, claimed that "a dead girl had been abused" and that Liverpool fans "were openly urinating on us and the bodies of the dead". These allegations openly contradicted the reported behaviour of many Liverpool fans, who actively helped the security personnel to stretcher away a large number of victims and gave first aid to many injured.

In their history of The Sun, Peter Chippendale and Chris Horrie wrote:

As MacKenzie's layout was seen by more and more people, a collective shudder ran through the office [but] MacKenzie's dominance was so total there was nobody left in the organisation who could rein him in except Murdoch. [Everyone in the office] seemed paralysed, "looking like rabbits in the headlights", as one hack described them. The error staring them in the face was too glaring. It obviously wasn't a silly mistake; nor was it a simple oversight. Nobody really had any comment on it—they just took one look and went away shaking their heads in wonder at the enormity of it. It was a "classic smear". Following The Sun's report, the newspaper was boycotted by most newsagents in Liverpool, with many refusing to stock the tabloid and large numbers of readers cancelling orders and refusing to buy from shops which did stock the newspaper. The Hillsborough Justice Campaign also organised a less-successful national boycott that still impacted the paper's sales, which some commentators have given as a cause for a constant drop in price, introduction of free magazines, videos and free DVD offers.

MacKenzie explained his reporting in 1993. Talking to a House of Commons National Heritage Select Committee, he said "I regret Hillsborough. It was a fundamental mistake. The mistake was I believed what an MP said. It was a Tory MP. (This MP has subsequently been identified as Irvine Patnick). If he had not said it and the chief superintendent [David Duckenfield] had not agreed with it, we would not have gone with it." MacKenzie would repudiate this apology in November 2006, saying that he only apologised because the newspaper's owner Rupert Murdoch ordered him to do so. He said, "I was not sorry then and I'm not sorry now" for the paper's coverage. MacKenzie refused again to apologise when appearing on the BBC's topical Question Time on 11 January 2007.

The Sun issued an apology "without reservation" in a full page opinion piece on 7 July 2004, saying that it had "committed the most terrible mistake in its history". The Sun was responding to the intense criticism of Wayne Rooney, a Liverpool-born football star who still played in the city (for Everton, now for Manchester United) who had sold his life story to the newspaper. Rooney's actions had incensed Liverpudlians still angry at The Sun. The Sun's apology was somewhat bullish, saying that the "campaign of hate" against Rooney was organised in part by the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo, owned by Trinity Mirror, who also own the Daily Mirror, arch-rivals of The Sun. Thus the apology actually served to anger some Liverpudlians further. The Liverpool Echo itself did not accept the apology, calling it "shabby" and "an attempt, once again, to exploit the Hillsborough dead."

Some other newspapers also detailed the same allegations on the same day, which apparently originated from a source within South Yorkshire Police attempting to divert blame, but The Sun attracted particular opprobrium for its use of the huge "THE TRUTH" headline and its subsequent refusal to issue an apology, something the other newspapers were quick to do.

On 6 January 2007, during their team's FA Cup defeat to Arsenal at Anfield, Liverpool fans in The Kop held up coloured cards spelling out "The Truth" and chanted "Justice for the 96" for six minutes at the start of the game. The protest was directed at Kelvin MacKenzie and the The Sun, and at the BBC for employing MacKenzie as a presenter.

To this day, many people in the Liverpool area refuse to buy The Sun as a matter of principle, and the paper's sales figures within Merseyside have been very poor since the day the original story was printed. As of 2004, the average circulation in Liverpool was still just 12,000 copies a day, 200,000 fewer than before the controversial article was published.

Liverpool: LFC Rival Gunners For Remy
According to widespread reports over the past 24 hours, Liverpool have entered the race to sign Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers.

The speculation appears to have originated in the Daily Mail who yesterday cited an unnamed source 'close to the player' as revealing the 27-year-old had held talks with both Arsenal and the Reds.

Subsequently picked up by social media and the likes of The Independent, Metro and Mirror, the story has rapidly gathered pace ever since.

The French international spent last season on-loan at Newcastle United, following QPR's relegation from the Premier League, and scored 14 goals in 27 appearances.

Despite the prospect of the R's being promoted back to the top flight at the first time of asking - they play Derby County in the play-off final on Saturday - Remy is expected to leave Loftus Road permanently this summer.

It had previously seemed the striker was destined to join Arsenal after being spotted in the crowd at their final home game of the season against West Bromwich Albion.

Liverpool's interest would be understandable as they prepare for a return to the Champions League, a competition Remy knows well from his time with former club Marseille.

Last season Iago Aspas provided the main alternative to the Merseysiders' first choice strike force of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

The £7.7million Spaniard struggled when opportunities arose and, with Fabio Borini returning from a spell at Sunderland, is expected to move on after just one underwhelming year at Anfield.

Remy, who has also played for Nice, Lyon and Lens during his career, is currently with the French national squad as they prepare for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

None of the various articles linking club and player appear to name a price but QPR are likely to want substantially more than the £8million they paid in January 2012.

Remy has three years left on his existing £75,000-a-week contract and scored six goals in 14 appearances for Harry Redknapp's men.

    Vital Verdict
Remy is an intriguing option who has proven himself in the Premier League. Although perhaps not the most exciting name, he is a decent marksman who possesses good strength and pace. Despite not being the most natural in the position, Remy has also played in wider areas during his career which is likely to appeal to Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. If he could be acquired for around £12million I'd certainly be tempted to make a move. Like most rumours however this is purely hypothetical and nobody should ever trust an unnamed source, especially not one referenced by such an unreliable title as the Daily Mail.

Oussama Assaidi close to completing move to Stoke after impressive loan spell

Stoke are closing in on a permanent move for Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at the Potters and impressed manager Mark Hughes.

The Potters boss is keen to secure Assaidi on a full-time basis and Stoke are in talks with Liverpool officials about a permanent deal.

And the Britannia Stadium club are growing increasingly confident that a deal will be reached with the Merseysiders in the coming days.

Stoke are conducting their business early this summer having already signed Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley on a free transfer.

Bardsley signed a three-year deal with an option for a further 12 months on Thursday.

Likewise, former Manchester United forward Mame Biram Diouf was also locked in talks with Stoke officials yesterday over a move to the club.

Diouf scored eight goals for Geran club Hannover last season.

Liverpool transfer gossip: Gunners battle Reds for Schneiderlin and Remy; Iturbe deal not dead despite £12m Verona switch
Liverpool have added a third Southampton player to their list of summer targets, according to the Daily Star.

They say Morgan Schneiderlin is wanted by the Reds, who have also been linked with Saints stars Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.

Arsenal are also reportedly ready to battle for French midfielder Schneiderlin’s signature.

Liverpool and the Gunners are also both chasing the same striker, according to the Daily Mail.

They saw a source close to the player says Loic Remy has held talks with both clubs.

Remy, 27, is contracted to QPR until 2017 but spent last season on loan at Newcastle.

Juan Iturbe has completed his £12m move to Hellas Verona - but TalkSport say this will not end Liverpool’s hopes of signing him this summer.

The Argentine forward, 20, was snapped up after impressing during a season-long loan from Porto.

However, it is thought they have done the deal with a view to selling him immediately for a profit. The £12m fee was agreed with Verona before Iturbe’s glittering campaign in Serie A.

Liverpool Reportedly Eye Bernard as Konoplyanka Alternative
Although the transfer window hasn’t opened in earnest quite yet, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has expressed a desire to get cracking on deals as soon as possible with this summers World Cup in Brazil sure to complicate matters further.

With a battle reportedly on the horizon for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, the Merseyside giants are apparently weighing their options with Shakthar Donestk attacker Bernard seen as an acceptable alternative to the 24-year old Ukrainian. The Reds were linked with a move for the talented Brazilian last summer before he decided to make the switch to Shakthar in a deal worth €25mil — though with the political unrest in the Eastern European country coming to a head, the 21-year old is reportedly looking for a way out.

With the talented youngster set to strut his stuff in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side at the World Cup this summer, there have been whispers that Brazilian side Sao Paulo will be swooping in for their countryman following the tournament. Whether or not they’ll be able to stump up the cash remains to be seen, but with Rodgers reportedly handed oodles of cash to build a squad capable of challenging on both the domestic front and in Europe, the £19mil price tag placed on his head could be enough to tempt the Northern Irishman into making a move.

At £7mil less, Konoplyanka certainly represents the cheaper option, but after running into complications trying to tie up a deal for the Ukrainian in January, the Liverpool hierarchy could be looking to avoid another headache in dealing with the stubborn Dnipro regime this summer. With Bernard apparently being offered around as his agent tries to orchestrate a move, Rodgers could act fast to snap up the talented youngster before his price balloons should he have a good showing at the World Cup.

Or, you know, this could just be another load of crap.

Rodgers Yakin Musim Depan Jadi Milik Liverpool
Nada optimistis diusung Liverpool jelang menghadapi gelaran kompetisi Premier League musim depan. Pelatih Brendan Rodgers percaya anak-anak The Reds mampu meraih gelar juara.
